As part of our broader curriculum we have been celebrating our International Week.  We have had a great time travelling around the world finding out about different countries and their cultures and customs.

On Monday the children in Key stage went off to the Buddhist Centre near Pocklington and the Mosque in  York to learn first hand about Buddhism and Islam.  The children learnt lots of facts and were able to appreciate how we are all the same  but just have a different way of going about things.  The children show great respect and appreciation towards the religions they experienced.

The children in EYFS and Class 2 had a visit from Sharon and Ian, representatives from the Synagogue in Hull.  They spoke to the children about Jewish life and brought in artefacts for the children to look at.

The children had a culinary treat today and yesterday as they made and tasted different foods from around the world.  Sophie said “it was fantastic especially the apple strudel which comes from Germany”, Freya said she “loved the Spanish omelette”.  Miss Clubley, who worked extremely hard to plan a menu that would allow children to taste a world of food, said the Sweetcorn fritters were a firm favourite with everyone.

It is so important to make sure that the children are exposed to weeks such as this to broaden their experiences and understanding.  Many thanks to all staff for their hard work in putting this together .
